She treats time as her greatest luxury, choosing presence over excess and rituals over rush. A believer in uniform dressing, She returns to the same cherished jewels and silhouettes pieces that feel less like accessories and more like a second skin.
M - How do you honour your time when it truly belongs to you?
N -“I really lean into the fact that the only true luxury is time, and so everything I do, I genuinely make it count. Whether it is reading a book, playing with my dog, going for a walk, or listening to music -- I try to be extremely present in everything I do. And this year, I have gifted myself the absolute luxury of spending time with people I love. So I honour myself, and my time, with the gift of one-on-one conversation with people who are really valuable to me.”
M - How important is self-expression to you, and can you tell us how it shows in one thing you do at work and in your personal day-to-day style?
N - “For any creative, I think self-expression is where it begins and ends. And it shows up in very, very individual ways. For me, for example, I love routine. I love waking up, working out, having everything around me organised so that my mind space is free to create -- and to be chaotic, disorganised, free. Which is why it is almost instinctive that the way I dress follows the same logic. I believe in uniform dressing. Wearing the same thing over and over again, or iterations of it, because it frees my mind to think about things that matter more to me. At work, I wore a black dress every single day. It freed me from thinking too much about separates, about accessories. I have favourite pieces of jewelry that I wear, and I am happy to wear them over and over again -- very much like a second skin.”
M - What is that one piece of clothing or accessory that can instantly put you in a cheerful mood?
N - “... And the jewelry I absolutely love are these silver bangles that my friend made for me. They are square with sharp edges, instead of being round. We made them in the early part of our relationship -- thirty years ago. I love that these bangles come from a time when both of us were getting to know each other and experimenting with our styles. And created something together.”
M - What draws you to fine jewelry? How does it bring you joy, and are there any fond memories around jewelry that you cherish to date?
N -”... My mother also gave me a gold and sapphire choker with a beautifully filigreed peacock. I like to think that is my family's way of sending me abundance, so I treat these heirloom pieces with absolute reverence. I continue this thread, this story, when I buy fine jewelry for myself. I use it to honour my roots but also to tell my own version of life and living...”
