m - How important is self-expression to you? Can you tell us how it shows in one thing you do at work and in your personal day-to-day style?
P - I like to mix style sensibilities. I have lived abroad in my 20s and travel extensively but I love Indian drapes, colours and textiles. My style is a reflection of these two worlds I straddle – a handwoven sari worn with a tank top, waistcoat or short tuxedo jacket; minimal but meaningful jewelry; kajal every day. My choice of what I wear to work is based on two simple principles 1. What I look good in and therefore feel confident in 2. Is it something I can wear to look presentable should an unexpected meeting come up or an event that I have to go to straight from work.
m - What is that one piece of clothing or accessory that can instantly put you in a cheerful mood?
P - Saris, specifically white cotton or muslin ones—if they are from Kerala even better. My favourite perfume, and wedge heels.
m - What draws you to fine jewelry? How does it bring you joy, any fond memories of jewelry that you cherish to date?
P - My favourite piece is my engagement ring which my husband designed and kept a secret for months. Unconventionally it is not a diamond but an emerald (my favourite color). I have worn it every single day for the past 7 years and feel lost without it. I love jewelry and wear pieces every day—from the playful to the traditional. I also don’t believe in saving expensive jewelry for very specific occasions and have worn a polki hasli with a simple white cotton kurta pyjama for a dinner party. Every day should be a celebration!
m - How do you feel when you wear Moi jewelry?
It speaks to my aesthetics—the best of Indian stones and colours married with simple elegant design.
